If you have pre-purchased Counter-Strike: Global Offense, and weren't already in the closed beta of CS:GO, restart your Steam. It's available for download now, if you haven't noticed already.

At approximately 1 AM GMT, Valve launched their beta for CS:GO, the follow up to their widely popular game Counter-Strike: Source, for those of you that have pre-ordered CS:GO.

Be aware that even if you already were in the beta but have not yet purchase the game you can only play till August 20th, and will not receive the full game.

Counter-Strike: Global Offense will be available August 21st if you have not baught it already.

ahhhhhhhhh the sweet days of playing CS in LAN cafes back when I was in college. I think I will need to have a look at this.

Agreed, Source never lived up to its billing. Cs was at it peak when it was 1.6 (for me anyway)

I'd be tempted by this, if Counter Strike: Source had still been fun... Will give it a shot regardless though.

It was just such a shame, after years of playing the original Counter Strike, up until version 1.7 I stopped. Then I went back, picked up CS:Source and found out that the game was no longer about fun... I used to love low gravity.

I really want to play counter strike now, but in a serious manner. Quickest u-turn I've ever done there.

I had the same problem. I loved the original Counter-Strike, but Source was just always "meh", and I have to say after a couple hours off gameplay, CS:GO is surprisingly fun and very well made. Yeah, there still are some bugs, but remember they're still in beta.

If I had any cash lying around I'd probably pre-order it now and have a bash on the Beta, but alas... I, must wait until pay day!

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't think much of Source as well! So many people who got into the game during that iteration always told me I didn't know what it was about. Clearly playing since 0.4 wouldn't give you a good indications of it's origins.
