Will you need a Money tree to play the Wii U?
Written by Doginmylense on June 09 2012 03:23 AM
No prices at E3 for the Wii U made me think that the system would likely follow status quo. $299 for the system and $59 per game. That was until today when gamestop.com posted their pre orders for Wii U games at an outrageous $99 per game! I hope this is some kind of joke but if not at $100 a game I will be passing on the Wii U. What do you guys think?

GameStop manager here. We got an email the same day that they put the Wii U games into our system for pre-order, saying that $99.99 was simply a place holder until an official price was given.

Fun side note: The games were also listed as Sega Saturn games for the first few days after being added.

If it ends up being anywhere over 70+ for a first party Nintendo game then I would probably pass on the Wii U. I think that it will end up being like what people are expecting (50~60) which is good but...Still going to wait it out.

I think it was just a set price when updating the system to include wii U games. I wouldn't freak out about it.

You think thats bad? In Australia new games retail at up to 120 dollars each. The PS3 cost 1000 on release standalone.

Aliens: Colonial Marines on WII U is only £34.85 in the UK, so over here the prices are starting off at a great price

Now available for preorder on shopto.net - looks to be the same price as the wii, 30-40 quid for a game.

I hope you are right. Since the GBA and Gamecube days I have never seen "placeholder" prices out of line with SRP though.

Pikmin 3 for Wii U on Amazon.com is $99.99 as well as all the others with exception of Ninja Gaiden which is $59.99 several other sites have $99.99 I have never seen them use place holders before for prices usually they just don't list. Now some games will get price drops before release and it's usually just $10 max but they have never done this for preorders.

I went on Amazon and the prices were 59.99. I went on Gamestop, and I think those were placeholders. Nintendo even said that consumers were going to be surprised about the price of the console and games. This did need to be talked about anyway, and I do think that Gamestop needs to change this placeholder quickly before people start getting the wrong idea about the Wii U.
